Eligibility: These resources are available to South Gloucestershire Council employees.

To support deeper understanding and awareness of deafness, we’ve carefully selected a variety of informative resources. These include websites, videos, and guides—each offering unique insights into different aspects of deaf culture, communication, and accessibility. Whether you're looking to expand your knowledge or enhance inclusive practices, these materials are a great place to start. There are resources on:

    • Local support services from the Gloucestershire Deaf Association.
    • A TEDxNHS talk delivered by a doctor who is deaf. She shares the unique needs of deaf patients and why we must appreciate deaf staff in our workforces.
    • Top tips for working with BSL/English interpreters.
    • 100 basic signs in BSL.
    • The finger spelling alphabet.
    • Lipreading guidance.
    • Information about Convo which is an interpreting service available to council employees.

You can find some further information on deaf awareness in our Providing a Quality Service to Disabled Customers e-module.
