• Course overview

Eligibility: SGC fostering and WAYPOINT staff who have completed Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) Level 1.

This DDP Level Two course is a 4‑day (28‑hour) training for clinical psychologists, social workers, parent mentors, therapists and other practitioners who have completed the Level One training. It builds on the ideas and skills introduced in Level One and is designed for those beginning to use DDP principles in their everyday work.

Each participant will have an opportunity to receive consultation on their practice. Ideally, participants can share recorded clips of their work, though this is often difficult, especially in Local Authority settings. If recording isn’t possible, consultation can be done through detailed case discussions. This may include “practice in action,” where group members role‑play as the child or parent to explore a specific conversation or challenge, and consider ways to use PACE. The trainer can also role‑play as the practitioner if that feels more comfortable.

Across the 4 days, participants can develop their skills, reflect on areas of success, and explore places where they feel stuck. The trainer will tailor the content to meet the consultation and training needs of the group.

    Learning outcomes

As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:

    • To gain a deeper understanding of the theory and practice of the interventions and parenting principles used in this approach.
    • To follow up on any relevant themes that participants would like more teaching on.
    • For each participant to have opportunities to focus on the successes and barriers experienced in applying the model in their practice via supervision or consultation about their work with families or their specific practice. This is the main aim.
    • To provide participants with the opportunity to explore (in small groups of 3 people for one hour a day) how their attachment history and experiences may inform and have an impact on their work.
